So (in the words of hairdressers everywhere) where's everyone going on their holidays this year? I'm flying to Pisa in a few weeks then 3 days in Rome, 3 days in Montepulciano (sorry if my spelling's rubbish) and a day in Pisa. Then in June I've got 7 days in Trieste to facilitate day trips to Venice and Slovenia etc. All done on the cheap and cheerful, penny flights from Brum and a rucksack with fresh pants, a toothbrush and a handful of Gordon's miniatures in case of emergency.

Barcelona's got endless cool stuff to do. Again, I'd recommend the open top bus tour which you can hop on a get off as you please and you get some money off a boat trip round the port. I did a bit of a Gaudi tour and obviously you HAVE to see Park Guell and the Sagrada Familia. There's a wierd sex museum too (bit o' blue fer the Dads) and loads of Picasso stuff, galleries and museums. If you're there at the weekend, the Ramblas is the place to have a great wander and mooch, but I found the caged birds a bit disturbing and the living statue blokes a tad annoying. The Placa Real's a lovely spot for a bite to eat and the beach is cracking! It's got a bit of everything Jez. You can't fail in Barcelona.

Had 5 days in Budapest in May - would highly recommend - and we had a heatwave too, so great weather to be supping a beer on the Danube. Lanzarote for 14 nights in July - first beach holiday for a while after countless city breaks during the last 18 months (inc. Amsterdam, Sofia, Skopje, Prague, Munich, Belfast, Edinburgh, Belgrade, Madrid, Lisbon, Budapest, Toronto/Niagara Falls).
